097How Typhoon Ondoy Affected Eastwood City

posted by sherliez on September 27th, 2009

Typhoon Ondoy (international code name: Ketsana) affected Philippines so much. It produced 410.6 millimeters (16 inches) which is the heaviest rainfall on capital Manila in more than four decades. The storm caused areas to be submerged under up to 20 feet of water, stranding entire families on rooftops and forcing the government to declare a “state of calamity.”

Eastwood City Cyberpark in Quezon City was not spared with the floods. There is a river behind this chic business and condominium area. Along that river there are many small wooden houses that’s been there since I worked in Technoplaza One before.

When I was in my graveyard shift, this is the sight that greets me early in the morning. That is why I always leave the window blinds so high in the ceiling. I always leave peacefully when I go home.

During my regular shift (4am-1pm) and when I need to take a break from my work, I will just look outside my office window and stare at the houses on the other side of this river. Compared to the modern and expensive lifestyle in Eastwood, these houses will always take me back to reality. That is to stop being a victim of money traps. Sometimes I see a farmer there with his carabao plowing this piece of land. There were lots of children playing here and in the water too.

Yesterday, when Ondoy hit the country and wreak it’s havoc, it did not spare this area. The river overflowed and affected the people here in this tiny piece of land.

As of this time “Ondoy” is located 290 kms west of Iba, Zambales, with maximum winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kph. It is moving west-northwest at 24 kph and is expected to be 790 kms west-northwest of Iba, Zambales Monday.
